Now We Wait…Thinking Out Loud

Guys.

HOLD UP!

obama-meme

I’m done.

I AM DONE MY APPLICATIONS!

OMG party party!

dance

Such a relief to be done with all of that and now it’s time to wait. At this point, I’m not very anxious about the answers yet because I’m too busy relishing in the fact that my brain has more empty space to use for something else now.

You would think I would be sleeping soundly now…

Sleep brain, sleep…

Don’t you hate when you are all prepped to go to bed early cuz you have an early wakeup and your brain is just like…

nope

Hello 4 hours of sleep and a full day of classes + gym + night class. Le sigh

This is not helping with healing brain. Don’t you get that…

Maybe my insomnia is because ..

I have no idea where my life is going now…

Where will I be in 6 months?

What if I don’t get in…what am I going to do?

What if I get more than one of my top choices (ha thats positive thinking), what will I choose?

Gah so many questions and makes me feel like I’m in limbo.

limbo

I really don’t like not knowing things. I’m a type A personality and like to be in control 24/7 so having no idea where I’m even going to be living in the next few months drives me crazy.

I just signed off my house a week ago. Like guys, I’m practically homeless!

……

Anyways enough about life, what other things caught my attention recently

Wait for it, controversy ahead…

Saw this video this morning and thought it would be a good discussion piece. I’m not trying to push my views on anyone, but I thought this was a good side of the argument to share.

Case in point, cows milk is technically for baby cows. The hormones, the proteins, the nutrients, its for growing a cow…

…not a human.

So in the long term, does this have an effect on us? Who knows (the doctor seems to think so…), but when you think about it, it’s kinda weird. Also, technically, is there anything super important about milk other than calories perhaps? You may argue calcium BUT there’s controversy about that too soo… yeah.

Thoughts?

Who’s bright idea was it to start drink from cow boobs anyways?

Glute gains…

Can I also say why computers and phones still don’t understand what a ‘glute’ is. It gets autocorrected to flute or apparently gluten..

I cannot wait to watch this video

I love Jeff Nippard’s informational videos and this one is on GLUTES! Perfect for pre-leg day tomorrow.

Speaking of my training …

Hopefully I will be kind to myself tomorrow as I anticipate I won’t hit my normal numbers due to still getting over this detox. Can’t say I haven’t gotten a bit frustrated over this week because I get more winded and am overall just more tired.

On top of the fact that I’m so bloated and gassy that I feel like a sausage…

..a few more days…a few more days..

I felt hunger for a moment today. Thats a start.

Try these muffins!

Almond flour is mad expensive but trust, everyone said these were the best muffins I ever brought into the gym and my housemates didn’t want me to take them from them..

gingerbreadmuffins

Wish I could take credit for the recipe but, alas, I cannot. I did do one switch, which was to use half molasses (more gingerbread-y) and half honey.

But trust trust trust, my family at the gym is saying they will buy me almond flour just so I will bring these back to them. They are that good and completely flourless, only a few tbsp of natural sugars and good healthy fats.

Anyone else truly adore the smell of gingerbread?

Also, these cookies…

I did alter these slightly by de-veganizing it by using eggs, used 2 tbsp molasses for the maple syrup (didn’t have any) and only a few tbsp of coconut sugar..

Next recipe I want to try is these..

veganpbjbars6

So easy. So little ingredients and how pretty are they!

…we shall see if mine look anything like that…

I been hearing so much good from this book…

milk-and-honey

I’m not a reader but I have such an urge to get my hands on this one.

I’m on such a motivational and inspirational kick right now and I think this book (even though its apparently poetry..) would be right up my alley.

And finally to finish off with this lil quotation..

50g Of Protein?!?…Thinking Out Loud

My friends, welcome to the end of the first full week of school!

img_9361

Not too shabby for 4th year eh?

I have to admit I’m still adjusting. Them Tuesdays and Thursdays are killer for someone who trains in the morning…Hello five am, you came too soon. But hey, when you have the rest of week as usual (ie. off) then I really can’t say much I suppose.

Chattering time, special thanks to Amanda for the chatline hook-up!

Thinking-Out-Loud-2

1.My prof this morning said…

You really only need 50g of protein. Maaayyybe a bit for more athletes…

Are you kidding me? I would die. Maybe not actually, but I’m pretty sure mentally I would ( I love protein…) and physically I would be suffering. A large chicken breast is almost that amount so what, no more for the rest of the day? Guys I eat a ridik amount compared to this on a daily basis (not because of some weird bro-science “the more protein the better” notion but because it’s something my body seems to tolerate for a higher amount when fats and carbs are a bit tricky right now) and I can’t imagine cutting down.

But no. I may not be a dietician yet, but I’m sorry 50g is too low. Someone has been following the Food Guide a bit too much. However, even that says to have more then that. Geesh…

Please review this amazing article about UP TO DATE SCIENCE AND PROTEIN NEEDS. Sorry for shouting but this low protein diet BS needs to stop!

screen-shot-2016-09-15-at-9-31-33-pm

Highlights:

Protein shouldn’t be understood as percentages of energy intake because those at lower intakes would not be getting enough.

Protein should be higher the the RDA recommendations because it not only is for building and repairing but also been found to help with certain disease and illness states.

Current perceptions are that protein is an expensive nutrient with limitations in the food supply and are reinforced by outcome measures that are based on strict cost/benefit approaches to diet formulation. This concept stems from animal science goals to maximize growth with the least expensive foodstuff. <-THANK YOU FOR FINALLY SAYING THIS OUT LOUD! Protein is said to not be needed as much because of money not because of health.

Phew I’m all hot and bothered now…

2. Is it weird that I can eat in a class discussing enteral tubes no problem…?

I’m just gunna happily eat away while you’re talking about how to shove a tube down someones throat, or gasp, through an open part of the skin. I may feel differently if those words turned into pictures tho…

3. I’m excited for my courses!

Specifically, the assignments. I have lost you haven’t I? I have all nutrition courses this semester for once and I have clinical case studies (where you act as if you are a working dietician and go through the nutrition assessment and treatment process) to look forward to doing in addition to creating my own program to target a group of individuals. Last night I came up with the idea to target the female athlete triad for this and I’m kinda excited to do it!

4. Accept the strap…

Yup, buckle up cuz on a day where my life is on my back, it needs to be distributed well.

img_9490

SnapChat is lilmisscross91 if anyone cares

Good thing I could care less what others think of my attire…

5. Enough about school, it has arrived!!

img_9489

Delicata is now found at my grocery store and I lit up like a fire cracker….

Kabocha will always be my first love but this baby takes up my fridge in the fall.

6. Unfortunately that is not all that has arrived…

meme

Hands up if you agree!

Too bad life doesn’t allow for that…

FML winter is arriving.

…..

Some things of interest on the inter web that have attracted my eye lately..

7. Passions stick. Superficial reasons fail.

screen-shot-2016-09-15-at-4-40-50-pm

Time and time again I will repeat this because it is so true. Find what you love to do and focus on enjoying that and getting better with that rather then an outcome attached to your physical appearance.

8. Science.

screen-shot-2016-09-15-at-8-59-42-pm

I enjoy listening to Layne Norton because he gives legit scientific information that is up-to-date. He gives some interesting basic information in this quick response vlog about carbohydrates and effects on blood sugar.

9. Speaking of science…

Been loving all of Jeff Nippard’s latest lifting videos.

He shows his workouts but then gives the science behind why he may use different movements over others based on studies looking into optimal muscle activation. Interesting stuff, definitely something to watch if you’re all into fitness and such.

10. One final IG gem to cap off this chatter post…

 img_9491

Loved this. There is never too much love you can give, never too much kindness and although we think over enthusiasm can be annoying, it’s just us being jealous that they found something they are highly passionate about.

Shine on and throw all of those amazing qualities at everyone you meet. They make you an amazing person and shouldn’t be something to tone down ever!

Happy Friday Eve friends

Whats a quality that you felt you had too much of? Sometimes being too empathetic and feeling what others are feeling too much can seem burdensome but in hindsight, I believe that its been a good thing. It makes me more understanding relatable in the end. Sometimes I wonder if that is what makes many feel they can share things with me without really knowing me too well.

I’ll Start On Monday…

My new diet starts on Monday

Starting Monday, I will live in the gym

My new body transformation will start on Monday

I will be a better me….

Starting on Monday.

start on monday

Happy September 1st friends. New month and this month in particular tends to be associated with the “after-summer fresh new goals” to reach before the new year.

We all see it….Similar to the New Year resolution season, with the return of school comes the new gym go-ers, the new dieters who want to loose all their summer weight plus more by Christmas, and people making plans/goals that surround making a fairly significant change in their life.

This is like a whole month of “I will start on Monday” and unfortunately this mentality often leads to starting changes as of September 1st and ending sometime between September 10th and October 1st. It’s a sad reality, and personally, a mentality that I often just cannot understand.

You see, I am fully supportive of goals. Goals that are something that lead to personal growth and bettering yourself. So yes, goals are great. What I don’t understand is why self-improvement has to be seen as a punishment or something to be delayed to a later date. In this case, after the weekend.

Why wait to better yourself?

I ask myself this question often when someone says that famous phrase to me…

should get my shit together

Here’s how I see it…

1. Your goal is unrealistic

2. Your goal is seen as a punishment

3. Its just not a priority enough

Either way, the chances of them lasting is slim to none. Take the gym as an example, we all dread the gym being packed, but always know that the stampede will clear in a few short weeks.

This is awful to admit because it’s great that people want to become more fit and I welcome those who want to improve upon their health and become stronger versions of themselves, but this is really just observation at it’s finest.

So lets look at the first point. Your goal will NOT be reached if you are looking at something as an “all of nothing” type of deal. I will cut X from my diet forever. I will go to the gym 2 hours a day, EVERYDAY, I will live off of salad…etc, etc. These are NOT realistic or attainable for anyone nor should they be thought to be required for bettering your health. These overly loafty goals are often pushed to Monday because you are wanting to be ‘free’ before you feel that life is going to suck.

6627afcadcdedb97dfd49e00e34d9092f9

This is why they fail. All-or-nothing goals will never work. Take one thing and change that. Make this a lifestyle by making something manageable.

~I will start by going to the gym 3 times a week

~I will turn out the lights 30 minutes earlier 3 times a week

~I will pack up my own lunch rather then buying out for work/school

So what about #2?

Sometimes people go into making changes because they feel they have to. Got a bad doctors report? The prescription –> get yo ass to the gym and loose 20 pounds. Doctors orders. You may feel the need to do it, but that doesn’t mean you’re gunna like it.

My new life starts on Monday.

Or what about writing that paper you need to get done. You know that sitting down and writing rather then enjoying time with friends sucks, so, push it off until Monday. Not only are you loosing time and probably adding stress to your life (plus loosing sleep), you probably ended up using some of that time doing something mindless because you told yourself you were gunna start later.

Ever done that? You have the time to kill but have already accepted that later start date so you don’t use that spare time effectively?

Instead, do an hour here and there over that weekend in between socializing. That’s not that big of a commitment, you aren’t spending hours in a chair slaving typing away and come Monday, look you have half your paper at least drafted.

When you look at something as a punishment or something that is being forced on you, you won’t want to do it. Nonetheless, how is moving it to a later date making it anything less then what you currently perceive it as? Punishment derived goals also fail because you have set your mind up that you hate this thing and that it is required of you to do. There is no internal driving force for you to want to do it.

Time to change your mindset.

Something may suck but turn it around to something positive. Need to change your lifestyle due to health issues? Make it a challenge to yourself in some way or take it upon yourself to try something new that you may end up loving. Find a recipe that you love and make it more nutrient dense. Work your way up to doing some race or lifting a certain weight. Don’t focus on the required target as if it is something ‘forced on you’ because that will just breed negativity. Instead, tell yourself that this is for you and make it something you want to do for yourself.

The last one is one that really hits most people hard. A certain goal or challenge may be a great learning opportunity or something that would really benefit a person but they just don’t do it.

Why wouldn’t they want to do something that simply makes them a better version of themselves?

It’s not a priority.

Yeah it may be great and all but it’s not important enough to them to make that change. That is a sad reality, but often times this is common and people miss out on a lot of great things and chances.

…..

So, overall I think that goals are great. They are visions. They are about helping to make yourself the best you can be. They fuel you to push and challenge yourself BUT that is only if you do them and take them seriously.

Ask yourself why wait to do something you want. Why hesitate to make yourself better. Want to make a change? DO IT RIGHT NOW!

…Or you may just let the chance slide on away from you and miss out.

It’s simply your choice.

Fad Lifestyles, Gym Newbs…Thinking Out Loud

Thinking-Out-Loud-2

My friends I have a lot to think out loud this week, so lets get started right off the bat shall we?

Thanks to the lovely Amanda from Running with Spoons for being the hostess to the mostess.

1. Maggie on my Mind

Here I was saying I’m an adult and everything and was going to be just fine when Rita left, but day 2 it hit me hard. You know that ‘down’ feeling, yeah that was me. I try my hardest to still smile (okay I don’t have to try that hard to smile, its just me) because smiling just makes you feel better, but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t have a bit of a dark cloud floating over me the past few days. It is perfect timing for me to go home this weekend and spend time with my familia and I have to say I just want snuggles…

IMG_8837.jpg

Of the puppy variety.

Is it bad that I have been ‘craving’ having a dog a lot recently…Ugh. Come to me money! Or better yet, can I just have one and it not cost me anything and never get sick… ever?

You know you’re desperate when you start wanting a cat just because you want a snuggle friend and they are less baby-like in their needs…

2.The gym is not a playground FYI

Not to sound like a preacher, but for real, take the gym seriously and don’t be an idiot when you come into the gym. I’m going to sound sexist here, but this specifically applies to guys because most often girls will run away to the cardio section when they are not sure (which is not the answer either!) rather then just being plain stupid.

Okay so that was a bit harsh, but I really don’t feel like seeing someone die when I’m in my domain.

Screen Shot 2016-07-20 at 8.34.39 AM.png

Pardon my lack of spell checkin…slips happen when you are speaking with irritation passion

This most often happens when said individuals are not only newbs but also when they decide to bring their newb friend(s) with them too. Multiples just increase the stupidity that occurs.

Screen Shot 2016-07-20 at 8.36.21 AM.png

And they just laugh…after they barely rack the bar and the guy crawls out from underneath it.

Just sits there and shakes my head.

Screen Shot 2016-07-20 at 8.36.22 AM.png

And when you don’t succeed, try again with more weight? Cuz that makes perfect sense

And fail again. Like actual fail and once again, spotter barely racks it with 50 extra pounds. Unfortunately in cases like this, it generally takes an injury for them to smarten up a bit.

Let me say something before someones like “you talk **it but why didn’t you step in”. One, I wish I could lift 150+lbs just so maybe I could show them up (plus ya ya save their life and everything). And two the spotter did manage to get it on the bottom rung (i.e. two inches from the guys face…).

Please note how there were numerous GUYS around these two and they did nothing…

Speaking of which…

3. Girls vs. Guys

We apparently think very differently. I went over to talk to a gym friend of mine about said newbs and his response to my “They’re freaking me out because I would rather not see someone die this morning…”

You apparently have a bigger heart then me, I would laugh if it fell on their face.

Now before you judge my friend, please note that most guys would have said the same thing. Call it tough love. They are being idiots, so the guys logic is that maybe if they actually loose it, maybe they will learn their lesson…plus get a bit of entertainment.

gym-help

Lets be realistic here, guys often get a kick out of seeing other guys pain.

4.Eating Like a Caveman…

Check out this podcast as this inspired this lil rant thought.

To the paleo folks, did you know that you have been depriving yourselves?

Of oat gains!

That’s serious.

New research has pointed out the fact that Palaeolithic people did in fact eat grains. BLASPHEMY! In fact, a new paper was published (and discussed in the podcast) on a new tool that was discovered that has traces of a type of oat fiber suggesting that it was used to grind the grains into a flour.

So yeah….Sorry?

They also touched on some other forms of ‘dieting’ that I wanted to mention.

Intermittent Fasting

This is no miracle solution to loosing weight, but rather just a different way to space out your calories for the day. Mr. Dolce happened to mention that he had tried and and felt like absolute crap for the 3 months he was on it.

No PR’s

No Strength

No Energy

Why make life hard on yourself?

Eat something before you train and fuel your body to make gains. Simple as that.

Exception may be for runners who get sick with running on full. Perhaps eating something very quick to digest is best, but go with your gut. Pun intended.

IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros)

I discussed a while back about this and what it was actually supposed to address when it was first released but they give great basic information as to why eating whole foods, rather then processed crap, is really how to keep your body weight in check. No, I’m not saying you need to eat clean 100% of the time to maintain your weight, I’m saying that eating wholesome makes a huge difference in satiety and often leaves you eating the calories your body needs. IE. Not in excess.

He said something very real..

Have you ever seen someone sit down and eat 3 apples? Not really. 4 donuts, yes.

The truth is that the satiety of the fiber and water from the apple often leaves you not wanting more due to feeling full and satisfied. The sugary, easy to digest foods leave you feeling unsatisfied and wanting more. Unfortunately, the latter is much higher in calories and can easily put you over your maintenance and lead to weight gain if consistently indulged in.

In other ranting news…

5.Why Do People Still Hate On Carbs.

Ugh I know that education on this topic is not there yet but it kind of infuriates me to hear people saying that I’m cutting carbs to loose weight or body fat.

Guys, no macronutrient (carbs/pro/fat) are the “fat storing macros.” If you go over your calories you will gain weight. You could eat over your cals in lettuce and you would gain weight. Don’t try that though because that may be painful…

Carbs bring with them a lot of water (about equal water per gram of carbs) so often people may reduce them to feel ‘slimmer’ just due to water loss but that is it. It’s not fat you are loosing. ITS WATER!

Okay rant over. Let me unruffle my feathers…

Disclaimer. I’m talking about carbs in general. Some people will avoid all carbs, including natural sources (oats, sweet potatoes, rice, etc) thinking that weight loss will follow. I’m not talking about cereal, sugar, etc

6. Bunny Therapy?

I just discovered that the pet store near my house lets you hold newborn bunnies just because. They just messed up because imma be there ERRYDAY!

cuddle bunny

OMG I just can’t get over my joy.

…or over that baby bunny. Uh Oh…

7.The Best Compliment.

“You look like you’re an athlete.”

Screen Shot 2016-07-21 at 10.02.03 AM

This is when strength and athleticism has surpassed aesthetics for the reasons why you work out, you know there is passion there. Find what you love because that is when it will stick and that is when you will progress.

I workout for me because I love it and I love getting stronger. I don’t work out because I feel that is required to have a certain body type.

…..

Well I’m off to lift real soon, so I’m gunna close it off there. I will be heading out for a nice lil hike post lift with a friend of mine to catch up which will be real nice…and maybe I will drag her back to the bunny shop…

I have a problem okay. At least I admit it.

Happy Thursday Friends!

Mixed Messages…Thinking Out Loud

Amazing job! You eat those fries and love every moment of it…

How do you eat all those bad foods all the time and not get fat?

It’s okay sweetie, you will conquer that whole pint of ice cream next time.

Hey maybe you should put down that pizza slice, it’s not like you need it..

…..

#YesIAteTheWholePint #RecoveryForTheWin

…..

im confus

Me and you both.

Linking up with Amanda over at Running With Spoons for this week’s Outloud Thinking.

You know my friends I have struggled with this idea for a while. We are very confusing with our messages about food. Then on top of that, when you throw recovery and what we ‘believe’ that those in recovery should eat in there, well **it just hits the ceiling and makes absolutely no sense.

On one side, we have the general public, who demonizes any food they perceive as unhealthy and condemn those who choose to indulge in them even in moderation.

If you happen to not be a size 2, gawd forbid you have that slice of pizza. You might as well prepare yourself for the long, judgmental conversations that may sound something like this…

Hahaha if I eat that pizza I blow up like a balloon…

Oh I don’t eat that crap, do you know how many calories that has in it…

Oh ya know I will just workout an hour longer tomorrow..#balance (<– this is so wrong btw, don’t do this!)

However, take someone who is recovering from an eating disorder and the conversation takes a completely different direction. Think north pole vs the desert.

opposites

That is amazing, you ate fast food twice today! Recovery win!

I feel so over full right now, but I need to get over that because it’s part of recovery…

#PintParty

See the difference?

I’m stuck here though. I see this discrepancy so clearly and that is what makes it so frustrating that I don’t have a clue where to even start. Despite knowing that with most eating disorders come fears and those need to be challenged, I also strongly believe that we taken things too far.

Instagram-My-reaction-officialdoyoueven-731229

How has it become okay to push things on those in recovery that we normally preach to those not in recovery to push away from? How are we supposed to show that food is just food when we do this?

We are extremists.

Recovery has become something where you are to ‘challenge’ yourself to eat in a way that we normally try to prevent.

You should feel comfortable with being stuffed if you’re in recovery, but you should feel slightly hungry if you’re not.

You should feel proud of tackling that Mc.D’s twice in one day if you’re in recovery but feel disgusting and bad about yourself if you choose to have a burger once and a while.

We are being completely contradictory with our messages. Food is food and shouldn’t be different for one group of people over another.

Another issue is this also puts pressure on individuals regardless of what “category” they fall into.

If you’re in recovery and you’re not going to those extremes you may feel (or others may feel) as if you’re not progressing. Likewise, further agitation can occur because if you feel that pressure to push yourself waaayyyy out of your comfort zone, it may create even worse association with certain foods.

On the flip side…

Those who do not fall into that category may feel the need to almost hide food when they are wanting or eating something ‘dirty,’ especially if they are overweight.

Apple and hamburger on scales conceptual

You can’t win. Both sides are negative, so then, what the heck do we do about it?

Truth is my friends, I’m tackling a slightly controversial issue here and honestly I don’t know what we can do about it.

I know that we need more consistency somewhere. The same food can not be good for one person but bad for another.

For those in recovery, we still need to challenge food fears so that food can be eaten without second thoughts or guilt. However, this needs to be balanced with not pushing so hard that it pushes them out of normalcy.

Cheering for someone to make them finish an entire pint of ice cream is not normal. This shouldn’t be dubbed a ‘recovery win.’ IMO

If they want the whole pint then thats different because it’s what they want to do but there is also the issue that sometimes with eating disorders comes binge eating….another challenge, another discussion.

Isn’t the point of recovery to reach normalize eating?

Again, on the other side, for those not in the ED category, normal eating should include those foods they are craving once and a while and the should be able to eat until they are satisfied. This is regardless of what weight you are at weight status should not dictate whether you are allowed to have certain foods on occasion (Yes I realize there are some exceptional cases but you get my point).

So, to sum things up, we have created a big, hot mess. Our messages about food are wrong and, to be honest, the way that we try to challenge food fears in the clinical population can ultimately lead to further eating issues (like binge eating) or just worsen fears even more because they are just too much.

Just my thoughts.

What do you think?

You’re Doing It Wrong…Thinking Out Loud

My Friends!

How has your week been?

img_8825

When you’re housemate needs new sunglasses, if gives you an excuse to try on ALL THE GLASSES. I ❤ sunnies.

I went home randomly on Sunday night up until last night (Wednesday) as my Mom was forced to go on yet another business trip to Houston. This is her second trip this month which is very strange for the person who hasn’t gone away in years. Hopefully that doesn’t continue…

So yeah, I headed home to be the “Mom” of the house and take care of my Dad (he gets very sad when she leaves…#RelationshipGoals) and my Maggie PLUS our new member…EllieEllie

So unfortunately, my Mom’s lil Gabby (parrotlet) passed away about 2 weeks ago and although I thought we were not getting any more birds (I’m not meaning to sound mean here, I’m not the biggest bird fan (as a pet) and neither is my Dad), Ellie has now arrived and my Mom is quite enjoying the more interactive nature of this one (Gabby didn’t let you touch her).

So when she was called to Houston she was very concerned about leaving her during the early bonding period, but I think she was okay.

So yeah, anyways, my Mom gets back tomorrow night, so hopefully my Dad will be okay for one more day alone (sad face) as I have a weekly meeting with my supervisor on Thursdays so I couldn’t stay. I did prep everything for him (breakfast and lunch), as I usually do to take the stress off plus I left him a lil something small and sweet last night (mini cheesecake) to remind him that someone else lil and cute (aka moi ;-)) was thinking about him. Maggie is heading over to play with her doggy friend, Piper, for the day as she cannot be alone for a long period of time.

Okay anyways, onto today’s post.

Lets do some Outloud Thinkin’ 😀

Thanks Amanda for the chatter space.

I know you hate this topic but…

OMG OMG OMG 20’s and full sun over here is coming. Next Tuesday is supposed to be 26.

jump-for-joy-gif

Rita and I are officially going shopping on Saturday because 1. I now have some money (hello job-gainz) and 2. Need something girly, summery and just because warmth makes me excited to buy new cute clothes.

Plus I need some new sandals/flats because skirts and dresses don’t really mesh well with Nikes…

Speaking of further exposing myself…

With my first paycheque came an order from Lulu. #SorryImNotSorry

LW3MEJS_012325_B

I lerrrrrve open backs ya’ll.

You make me feel like a bad Mama…

So I mentioned that I went home to watch Maggie. There are a few reasons for this.

~She still has to be taken out every few hours to go to the bathroom despite almost being 2. My parents are coddling her a bit more then then did with Lacey…

~She has major separation anxiety. One MAJOR drawback of the aforementioned coddling is that now whenever my parents leave the house, she screams like she’s being murdered and ends up leaving some kind of present in the house sometimes. I know that she is like their baby and having her come with them where ever dogs are allowed is perfectly fine, but its at a point where they hesitate to go out for the day because they are concerned about her in the house for too long.

I felt horrible yesterday morning as her wailing crying (from her pen in my parents room) was so loud at 4:30 am when my Dad left for work that it woke me up and kept me up (because how can you sleep when someone’s crying?!) for a good half an hour until she settled back to sleep.

Now you may be thinking, why didn’t you bring her into your bed you mean mean person! As much as I hate to let her cry, she would simply pace around my bed searching for my Dad anyways. She didn’t do that the first two days to my knowledge so I don’t know why yesterday was so hard for her.

She was however calm enough to take a nap with me later that morning (pre-lift for me).

You may be high maintenance for a 2 year old, but you’re definitely a cutie-pie.

Due to my more recent confidence increase (I wrote a post about it), this post speaks to me. Many people try to make people feel bad about being confident, when really, I believe they are just jealous that they are not feeling the same way about themselves.

It’s very true that confidence is often built from struggles. Why? Because breaking free of those demons, you are showing yourself your own strength and, damn, that is a powerful thing.

I have gone through some crap in my life. I have faced and currently face hurdles that I can never stop fighting, but the strength I see in myself now is what fuels a form of self love that I have never experienced ever before and you best be sure that I’m not afraid to show it.

So, with that being said, I will be very blunt when I say that anyone who tries to bring another person down for embracing who they are and loving themselves (which then shows as confidence) should take a hard look in the mirror because that is what is often lacking for them.

Are you a pre- or post- brusher?

Well if we’re being open and honest…

The title of this post comes from this recent phenomenon I have noticed.

I have heard from 3 people in the past week that they brush their teeth straight after waking before eating…

I asked my housemate why she does that and she said it’s to get rid of the mung or dry mouth in the morning.

The thing is, my friends, is that’s not the purpose of brushing your teeth.

You see, brushing your teeth is supposed to get rid of food particles so they don’t stay and rot in between your teeth (hello stank breath). So if you brush before you eat, you’re then leaving those food particles ALL DAY.

So really, you are effectively…

DOING IT WRONG.

Mung will not kill you. Swish your mouth out with some water if it bugs you that much and move on. Plus who wants toothpaste mixed with their food?

Not me.

I will go to bed sad tonight…

Because tonight Grey’s Anatomy is leaving us.

Is the marriage on?

Does April’s baby survive?

I have to wait until tomorrow morning when the video is uploaded online to see! Ahhh.

But I can be happy that Mistresses will be returning in the next two weeks. Seriously that show is way to good to go on as many hiatuses as it does.

mistresses_abc_group

I never remember what happened in the previous season because it leaves for so long. Ugh #FirstWorldProblems for real.

Another amazing show that never shows back up –> Stalker. Anyone else see that one?

Well I think that is all the randomness I will bring you tonight. Happy Friday-Eve Friends!

Grey’s fan?

Do you “do it right?”

Thinkin’ Out Loud…Social Media IMO Version

Hey Friends!

You’re almost there. It’s Friday tomorrow, plans for the weekend?

Before I begin on my lil opinion-based post, I want to do a big birthday shoutout to this girl right here…

img_8758

Happy Birthday to my lovely housemate, Emily. After a rough 21st year of life, lets make 22 a lot better mmmkkay?

img_8765

Turned her oatmeal into a massssttaapiece of a double decker cake with a banana flower 😀

I wanted to rant out loud about some of my thoughts on some social media posts as of lately as some have really stuck out to me.

So with that, thanks to Amanda over at Running With Spoons for the hook-up and get ready for some IMO-in’

When Photoshop becomes ‘fitness goals’

img_8768

The last line says it all:

That is unfortunate.

So many of us, myself included, fall for the fakeness that is IG, Fb and all of the other social media platforms. People post pictures using the best light, the least amount of breathing/food/water/etc and max flexing as possible to get the perfect shot.

Then in comes the mass of people who look at that persons picture and say:

“Body Goals!”

Well, not to be blunt, but dem body goals ain’t gunna happen because they’re not real in the first place.

…not to mention you are not them. You are you with your own body and shape.

Always remember that lighting, time of the day, filters AND photoshop do wonders for pictures. Don’t compare yourself to an image that has been created, you will just kill your self esteem.

Speaking of Aesthetics…

Think about it.

Our world is filled with images of naked bodies to grab attention and gain ‘likes.’ What good does this contribute to the world?

Zip… IMO.

Contribute to your world in more useful ways. Use your skills not your appearance. When that fades, what do you have left? What have you done?

Another one from Miss Dietician Deanna…

I’m sorry, but does anyone else get slightly offended when someone says oh you’re gunna be a nutritionist when you’re studying dietetics. Please don’t take this as me putting down nutritionists, but in all honesty, you really can become a nutritionist out of thin air while I have to study and work my ass off to get to be a dietician.

Put down the phone. It’s not your third arm. It’s not your heart or lungs. You won’t die without it. It’s okay to let it have a nap for once.

People are incredibly rude these days. When conversing with someone, who the hell do you think you are pulling out your phone like I’m over here for your convince when your phone stops buzzin’

Apparently people are becoming second to a piece of technology and because of it we are forgetting how to talk to others. It’s a big hole we are digging for ourself thats for damn sure.

Wow that got heated real quick…

But now onto Facebook…

My coach’s wife Carol posted this actually and it resonated with me. It’s a sad truth. Often times we feel more supported by those we don’t know then some of our closest friends.

Real talk, if they are stagnant, they’re gunna have a real hard time supporting you, so don’t expect much.

That lil thing called Macrohoarding…

macros.jpg

….when the rest of the day you be like…

poverty macros.jpg

…Poverty Macros.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s one to thing to have a treat or to have fish and vegetables for dinner BUT to intentionally have the least fattening and carby things throughout the day (including around your workout, when, ummm food is kinda important) just so you can have this massive bowl of crap processed foods at night is a bad way of organizing your food.

IMO

An account on IG said it perfectly and I’m mad I didn’t screen shot that post, but she talked about how you can’t really say you are a “fitness addict” or a “health-freak” if you are not fueling your body the best you can when it needs it the most. The critical time frames for you to consider your nutrition is pre and post workout and here you are skimping on that and having a sucky workout and recovery just so you can make this calorie bomb at night and post it on IG.

Hashtag health?

Speaking of #Hashtags…

Oh I’m going to ruffle some feathers here.

PS, Anyone out there still on the Tweeeetterr-train? I just started again and I’m quite enjoying myself I will say. 24-hours of Chelsea randomness.

I won’t go into too much because I can rant on and on about this. Yes, this is a generalization and yes there are some healthy vegetarians out there who understand what their body needs if they choose to cut meat and potentially all animal products from their diets, but for real, the number of sick individuals seems to outweigh the healthy ones IMO.

Don’t argue with me that vegetarian living is the way humans are supposed to be because I will fire right back at you, but if you choose to take on that lifestyle, educate yourself as to what you need to pay special attention to so you don’t turn into a sick, malnourished beanpod.

And just for **it’s and giggles

Ahhh ostriches. Frightening beasts they are…

Well that post came together is less then an hour, guess that means I really wanted to rant on about these things. Thanks for always being my outlet.

Hope you enjoyed and happy Friday Friends!

Please do not be offended by anything that I have said as they are simply my opinions. Many thanks.
