Friday Fitness Fives…Fitness Friday 30

Before we begin, let me just link you to my excitement of the day. I literally almost cried. I was so proud of myself. That was a big EF you to all my body and health struggles this year.

Anywho, onto the main topic..

Fitness Friday!

Wow number 30 friends! I hope you enjoy this random survey I decided to do for todays topic.

5 Fitness Myths That are not the obvious…lifting makes you bulky…

  1. You don’t need to pile on massive amounts of weight to put on muscle mass. This is really not beneficial as that makes your cut harder/longer and probably your muscle losses greater.
  2. Not all squats look the same. Don’t look at someones squat and tell them they are doing it wrong if they are more forward than you are. Bodies are different and that means that lifts are going to look different.
  3. More is not better. Doing squats on a boss ball to hit your legs and your core and your balance, etc, etc is not better. You are not able to give your all to any one of those components and probably not really doing much as a result.
  4. Heavier is not always better. Yes, lifting heavy is great and progressing forward is part of getting stronger, but if you start doing half the lift as a result of upping the weight than you are not benefiting optimally from it. Form than weight ALWAYS
  5. Not everyone is made for the stage. Just because you’re into fitness doesn’t mean you have to compete. Competing is a special thing that not everyone is good for. Dieting, genetics, dealing with body image issues and having a goal at the end for yourself not for a win are all parts that torture people during prep. Really think about it before you go into it.

5 Body Parts We Tend Forget About But Shouldn’t…

  1. Rear Delts –> Required for a fully defined and balanced shoulder.
  2. Core –> Not really forgotten, more like purposely ignored because most hate core work. This will help you with all your compounds friends because all lifts start with a strong core.
  3. Glutes –> Guys this is looking at you because you know that girls don’t have an issue with this part. Strong glutes help with a ton of lower body movements. Do them.
  4. Chest –> Turning those looks back on you ladies. Benching is so empowering and if you train one body part, don’t neglect others. You won’t loose your boobs from benching (that is overall fat loss) and you won’t randomly sprout pecs…
  5. Heart/Lungs –> Yes, these are muscles you aren’t supposed to forget about. Again, females tend to overdo this, but many guys go into bulk season and completely stop any form of cardio. It’s not just about aesthetics friends.

5 Workout Gift Ideas

  1. Hip Circle–> do it for them glutes!
  2. Bands –> also great for glute activation and low impact stimulation. You can use bands and recover quickly and not really interfere with weight training while they still activate and get some blood flowing into the glutes.
  3. Foam Roller –> They may hate you while they are rollin, but they will come around when they see the benefits of adding daily rolling into their routine.
  4. Massage Gift Certificate–> What I would give for a massage…
  5. For the Guys–> A solid pair of straps. This could totally be a for a girl as well, but was trying to come up with something appealing for a guy..

5 Cool Fitness Circuits

5 Favourite New Exercises

  1. Rack Pulls. Back day has never been so exciting. These are so satisfying and a core killer as well.
  2. Squats. It’s a love-hate thing. I’m so driven to get my numbers up that I really want to squat, but do I truly love squatting when I’m doing it…
  3. Sumo Deadlifts. I have mentioned before that deadlifts are one of my weakest lifts. Damn hammies. I began to do sumos a few months back for my glutes but than stopped for a bit to switch over traditional as I thought that felt more comfortable (sumos were hurting my knees). BUT I came back because I’m stubborn and hate to say I don’t do something. Tweaked my foot position (I can’t have my feet pointed on an angle, they have to be straight) and voila, much better.
  4. Barbell Hip Thrusters. I was doing these on the leg extension machine for a while because I felt like I got a better feel that way and I was annoyed whenever I had to set it all up. Guys, these are worth the set up and practice if you want to build them glutes and the first time I went back to barbell I got up to 125lbs. #Shocker
  5. Plank Side-To-Sides. These are just fun. Even my housemates like them.

5 Favourite Foods That Are Stereotypical GymRat

  1. Rice Cakes. These are my love. Recently, all main-chain grocery stores in Guelph were not receiving ANY of my rice cakes and I didn’t know what I was gunna do. Dramatic eh? But because of my dietary restrictions right now, these are a major carb staple for me. I eat pretty much half a bag every day… #GimmeAllTheCarbs
  2. Peanut Butter. Duh! Natural obviously and #TeamCrunchy
  3. Cream of Rice. This used to be oats, but after my parasite treatment my oats tried to kill me (too much fiber for my poor tummy) so COR it was. I missed the texture of oats at first, but now I really like it.
  4. Whey. Diesel all the way. Lactose and all things chemical and sugar free. Plus amazing flavours! Favourite flavour is the peanut butter chocolate OR the salted caramel
  5. Egg Whites. We all love our fat free egg whites. So versatile and you can than add whatever you want to them. Sorry I just can’t get on the sweet egg train. Yuck.

5 Favourite Fitness Juuu-Tubers

These are always changing, with some exceptions, but here’s my list of top tuber’s

  1. Amanda Bucci –> Just entertaining to watch. She offers lots of advice, is straight up about everything and is consistent with her quality and material.
  2. Taylor Chamberlain–> Lots of tips and tricks and I love her positive and happy personality.
  3. Emily Duncan–> Love her perspectives and thoughts on life. She gives great fitness tips and her videos offer great variety.
  4. Valentina Esteban–> Cannucks say Hhhheeey. I love her perspective on just about everything. Think positive, follow your dreams and work towards your goals even if they are hard at times. Stay objective.
  5. Jeff Nippard –> hello science backed training advice and his video quality is amazing! It’s interesting how he’s serious but so entertaining at the same time.

I hope you enjoyed these 5 fitness lists. What is a fitness related 5 list for you? 5 songs? 5 Foods?

Christmas Eve is tomorrow.. are you ready?

What’s the One…

Happy Saturday My Friends!

What are you all up to today?

I’m hitting the gym bright and early so that Rita and I can catch the 12:30 bus downtown TO to the Eaton Centre for some summa shoppin. This girl right here is in serious need for sandals!

Make that pedi too…

So I found this post on Wholesome Paradise and thought it was a fun lil survey to do. She stated that she found it here, but I have linked Stephanie’s post (click on the picture) so that you can check out here answers and her fun blog spot. 🙂

Thanks Stephanie for the blog-spiration.

What’s the One…

Healthy food you never want to run out of?

Freshly ground, crunchy peanut buttah. Yeah I’m spoiled and get the BESTEST tasting peanut butter of my life at a lil local health food store (back near my parents house) that grounds their own stuff almost daily. Believe me when I say that fresh ground makes all the difference as anyone who I have graciously given a taste has wanted their own tub…

My housemates beg me to pick them up a tub every time I go home so yeah I’m the freak who walks out of the store carrying 4-5 tubs of peanut butter..

“Non” healthy food you never want to run out of?

Ice Cream. I have recently pulled back on this as I’m really struggling with the post-lactose consumption icks, but I will still never give up housemade gelato/ice cream Cough…Jay’s good stuff.

Kitchen appliance you would hate to lose?

My toaster oven as I bake absolutely everything in there every day so that I don’t need to use the huge oven for my food (plus it’s faster!) OR the microwave because I need my food boiling hot or I won’t enjoy it the same way.

yes yes microwave haters, I’m gunna die from microwave radiation…

Self-care item you stock at all times?

Following Stephanie’s lead here with supplements. I feel like a drug addict half the time with how many I take right now. But hey, they aren’t actually medications so I can’t be mad and they are ensuring that all my t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted.

Sorry I just felt like throwing that random saying in there for no apparent reason..

Self-care service you never miss?

The gym. Obviously.

Piece of equipment at the gym you would miss?

Squat rack. All your main lifts are done in that thing plus you can do some hanging core work on it. It’s a necessity!

Fitness class you hope never goes out of style?

Hot yoga. I haven’t done it in a while, and I miss it. Hopefully I can fit in a class or two soon. After bikram though, I just have a hard time pushing myself to go to just a regular ol’ hot yoga class. It’s just not challenging enough and doesn’t give me that same sense of release.

Piece of workout clothing you must have?

My Lulu ‘what the sport’ shorts. They are the only bottoms I wear. They are perfect length (not booty-showing shorts when you bend over) and they have pockets on the hips which not only looks better for those lacking in that area but they are the perfect spot for your i-pod when you do lots of core work and then find those front pockets inconvenient.

Fitness gadget you cannot live without?

My iPhone and/or i-pod. We are a celly-phone world after all (but I’m not addicted and I can leave it and be okay lol) and yes, I could just use my phone for my music in the gym BUT 1. I don’t want it to get sweaty and/or broken and 2. I hate when people bring their phones into the gym. Disconnect for an hour of your life peeps. Other parts of life can wait while you do your thang.

Plus you hog the benches/machines when you’re sitting there texting -_-

Fitness or health app you would hate to see go away?

MyFitnessPal. I don’t tell others to track because you shouldn’t have to. For me, a person in recovery, I under eat if I don’t track. I need it set in stone to ensure I get enough calories and follow my meal plan accordingly while having variety. Do I want to use it forever? No. Right now though, it’s required for my health as I know myself too well.

Thing or item you must do/have to go to sleep?

Night snack + Brush my teeth.

Body part you love the most?

My eyes. They are big, dark and honest. I have always been told that they show my inner sparkle.

Personality trait you love most about yourself?

My empathy. It can be a pitfall sometimes as you sometimes feel too much and stress yourself out, but I love that I can relate to many people because I can feel for them and what their situation is.

Now pick one thing (or more if you’re feeling crazy!) and post your answer in the comments below.

Have a great Saturday friends!

Daddy’s Lil Girl

My Friends,

This post is a direct shoutout to the most important man in my life.

My Daddy.

I haven’t really spoken much about my Dad in this space and due to today being his birthday, I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce him to you all, survey style.

A cute memory of my Dad.

My Mom always used to tell me that my Dad was so afraid to hold me when I was first born because he loved me so much and was afraid that his big hands would break me.

A funny memory of my Dad.

My Dad would not agree with me that this is a funny memory (traumatized for life), but when I look back I can laugh. When I needed stitches after running into the back of his car on the way to dance (don’t ask, long story–> basically got the fender basically like 2 cm from my eye), the nurse gave him the other half of my popsicle for just not passing out through all my screaming.

Things my Dad does for me.

Too many to count. He’s really a selfless man when it comes to me (and my Mom). You have to be careful what you say around him or he might just go out and get/do it.

One of my favourite little things he does is that he comes down to my school on a day off to have lunch with me just because. The perks of being 30 minutes away I suppose.

Over the Christmas break when I was back at home and going to Goodlife gym he drove all the way from home just to put a snow brush in my car while I was in the gym because it was snowing outside and he was worried I would be without when I was done.

He is a very caring and thoughtful person and will most often put us before himself and go out of his way if he thinks that something will make us happy. It’s even more likely if he thinks there is a safety issue.

I wish my Dad would know…

How much I appreciate him. I think you can gain a general sense but can you really ever show just how much you care for those people you love? He has been through a lot with me and has done so much. I could never express how much I love him for that.

I also wish my Dad would know that he did a good job. I wish he could worry less about me because he has taught me the things that will keep me safe. I’m still learning and with that he will loose more of his hair, but he should feel confident in the teachings he has instilled in me.

One personality feature of my Dad that I have:

Although my Mom shares this quality as well, my Dad is someone who will always try to make the important people in his life happy. Even if it requires him to go way out of his way, he will do it if it means it would put a smile on my or my Mom’s face. I feel as if I also have a need to do things for others and seeing that smile is my reward and driving force. For myself though I often feel that maybe I might do too many things sometimes where the receiver may be wondering why I’m trying to run their life HA.

One not so positive one that my Dad and I share is that we are worriers. He worries overtly, while I tend to keep those inside and then eventually just explode cry when it builds too much.

What do I love the most about my Dad

His love. No one can ever really describe the love a father has for his daughter. He would do anything for me without question. Does he get frustrated with me? Of course. That’s part of growing up and becoming my own person. Nevertheless, he lets me make my own mistakes to learn from them and will always support me no matter what.

Do I look Like my Dad?

There is always the debate as to who I look more like, my Mom or my Dad. Many say my Dad because of the dark hair and eyes. Although those are only two things, my overall appearance is very defined by those two features.

Although not from him directly, I have a lot of my Nana (his mother) in me. I have her tiny nose and small stature in addition to some lovely golden streaks in my hair from her fiery red locks.

What has my Dad taught me:

So many things:

He showed me unconditional love and so it’s something that I simply believe every child should have.

He has been a strong male figure in my life and has presented to me what I should expect in a future partner.

He taught me the basics in the gym that allowed for me to spread my wings and thrive.

He taught me how to set all the alarms in the house HAHA

He consistently reminds me of being ‘street smart.’ He is overprotective and me being a tiny female, he always stresses looking out for myself when I’m alone.

My Dad drives me crazy when…

He over worries. HA. He is a total worry wart and although it’s a sign of love and it’s totally cute, it can lead to an argument once and a while because he’s over protective and may not like me doing something that I feel is just fine. As an example, driving in the snow, busing alone to Toronto, etc.

I turn to my Dad when…

I need help with basic life things like house stuff, bills and such because I’m a total newb when it comes to those things.

I’m walking home at night. I almost always call my Dad just to chat with him as I’m walking. He prefers it that way anyways because he likes to know that I’m in my house with the doors locked.

My Dad Turns to me when…

He wants to get new music HA! I convert and download music for him and in general, anything technology related he tends to come to me (sometimes my Mom, but I’m faster ;-))

If he hears things about nutrition at work from colleagues that he’s interested in knowing more about.

My Dad is someone who loves hard, wears his heart on his sleeve and gives a lot. He may look a bit intimidating (big shoulders yo!) and get frustrated from time to time (patience of 0) but he is really just a big teddy bear.

So there he is. The main man in my life who sets the standards for the next man who takes that spot.

Happy Birthday Dad, I wish I could be there with you today and at least give you a bit hug on your special day.

Love you

From Bun.

Who do you look more like?

Characteristics that you share with your Dad?

The End Of The Year Has Come…

It’s the last day of 2015…

Whatcha doing?

Happy New Years Eve my friends!

I first want to take the time to send a birthday shoutout to my MamaScreen Shot 2015-12-31 at 8.53.46 PM.png

New Years Eve baby she is ❤

For this reason, today rarely marks a day where I’m out partyin. If I have plans, then sure, but more often then not we celebrate together because it’s more about her birthday. She opened her presents over Chinese food and we generally will watch some comedies followed by the ball drop in NYC. Then it’s a race between my Dad and my Auntie Wendy (his sister) to see who can call up my Nana and Papa first to scream Happy New Year.

It’s tradition.

Can you tell that we are all about traditions in this house?

Oh, movie choice for tonight is Police Academy. Anyone else ever seen these movies? They are before my time but my parents and I watched them when I was a kid and they still make me laugh. That old fashioned, cheesy humour

So I wanted to take the time to do a fun lil year wrap up survey as well. Apparently I’m on a survey kick lately.

But first, here are some blog stats that WordPress so kindly sent to me.

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 34,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 13 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

The busiest day of the year was October 18th with 624 views. The most popular post that day was Strength Isn’t Something You Are Taught.

Top referring sites: Lord Still Loves Me, Facebook

Top Commenters: Brooke, Ellie (Follow her here!) and Carolyn. Much love ladies!

Thanks so much for all of your love and support! I truly love you all and always appreciate you all for all you do for me.

So onto that survey…

I found this survey on Christine Hennessey’s blog and it looks fun so here it is. (Don’t forget to check out hers here)

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Many firsts. I asked out a guy for the first time in my life. I took over taking care of bills in my house (means I’m an adult now right?).Got my first MRI and colonoscopy (not fun..).

2. Did you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn’t really set New Years Resolutions. My thoughts on those were in my post the other day.

I did tell myself that my second year at Guelph I was going to make sure I didn’t stress as much and I think I did work towards that.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My Auntie Melanie gave birth to her third child, a baby boy named Kane who unfortunately I have yet to meet. My cousin Chantal also welcomed a third baby, Melanie, into the family. As far as friends, despite the huge string of engagements, I’m thinking I’m still a bit young to be seeing too many babies.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no. *Knock on wood* I have never actually experienced a death that is close to home for me.

5. What places did you visit?
Sadly I didn’t really travel much at all this year. Student life problems. The furthest I went this year was our typical trip to the Walden Gallery for shopping in the last weeks of summer.

Oh I did go to Ripley’s Aquarium for the first time. My Mom and I had wanted to go there for like ever and it was a lot of fun!

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2016?
Energy. This fall (post Thanksgiving) really marked the start of my legit weight gain goals and working with Mike. Due to my weight loss, I was really starting to lack in the energy department and I’m happy to say that it is getting better slowly but surely with the food increases.

7. What dates from 2015 will remain etched in your memory, and why?
Moving into our new house in Guelph. I was super excited about getting to live with my ladies. ❤

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Accepting that I needed help. Other achievements include maintaining my honours status at school, be awarded with a scholarship that I didn’t know about.

Also, a bit of an ego booster was learning that my school actually only accepts about 5 transfers per year. Here I was wondering why everyone was telling me that my program was hard to get into and know I understand. But hey, means I didn’t worry at the time and now it just makes me feel all kinds of special. 😀

9. What was your biggest failure?
Failure? Wow harsh words. One negative that is sticking out in my mind because it’s fresh is getting a less then honours mark overall in my biomammalian physiology course this semester. It brought down my overall average/GPA to an 82 which I was very disappointed with so I hope I can bring that up again next semester.

10: Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got food poisoning once this year…Never again will I be able to a hard boiled egg.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmmm…Maybe my Nikes.  Wow these questions are testing my memory skills…and showing my lack of said skills…

12. Who’s behavior merited celebration?
Rita. I have never seen her work so hard at school and she did so well this semester! I’m so proud of her.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
We shall say that I learned a lot from my first lil dip back into the dating game in the summer…Immaturity

14. Where did most of your money go?
Supplements. Ouch.

15. What did you get really excited about?
Being able to enjoy my summer at home, but at the same time, getting super excited at the end of the summer to house with my besties back at school.

16. What song will always remind you of 2015?
I’m a very passive music listener. Mostly whatever comes on Pandora. That said, I really like the song “Home,” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I first heard it in a car full of yoga friends, driving to an out-of-town Ashtanga workshop, after I had to decided to go to UNCW and move away. It was a bittersweet listening.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. happier or sadder? Happier. I’m pleased to say that. It has been a more recent self observation and I truly think it’s because I’m now working on mending my body.
b. richer or poorer? Did I mention student life problems? Poorer… 😦

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I always wish that I spent more times with friends then I did. This year I can say that I tried a lot harder to pull people together more often and enjoy more time with others rather then stressing with school and it always boosted my mood.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Spending too much time worrying about what I wasn’t changing.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Hosting Christmas! Seeing so many members of my famjam in our house was super fun but equally exhausting. Worth the work though 🙂

21. Did you fall in love in 2015?
No, but how cute is Christine’s answer..

I fell more in love with the same person. (Aw…)

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Hmmm I have my favourites but a few new favs pulled into my list including Chicago Med and Stalker (<- such a good show but it’s like never on?!?)

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate at this time last year?
Again, ouch. I don’t hate people.

24. What was the best book you read?
LOL that would require reading…. which I don’t tend to do HA well novels that is. I read blogs and articles online.

25. What music did you get excited about?
I really got into Timeflies this year. Their songs have been continuously making their way into my playlists.

26. What did you want and get?
A nutrition volunteer opportunity (Thanks Gabrielle!). A new PR in the gym post working with Mike and I hit 120 for back squats with the best form I have had.

27. What did you want and not get?
A spot on the student nutrition board.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I don’t actually watch that many movies, is that weird? The Victoria Secret fashion show is always a hit in my books HA

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 24 on July 3rd and as I get older (I know I know I’m not that old yet lol) I tend to once again make it about family.

30. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
Going to Cali 😉

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?
HA warmth. After the arctic winter though, I embraced my inner dress lover all that I could in the summer.

I wouldn’t really say I have much of a fashion sense. Is Lululemon considered a fashion concept? Gym Girl Problems.

32. What kept you sane?
The gym. Always the gym.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm toughie, I will say that Jennifer Lawrence always strikes me as a pretty awesome person. She speaks the truth and she is never anyone but herself.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Politics go over my head for real. Although this whole Trump running for president thing is messing with my mind.

35. Whom did you miss?
Maggie. I really truly miss her when I go back to school. I often have times where I really really miss my Mom too. Thankfully around those times, I can just go home and fill that need.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
There are a few people who I already met but didn’t really spend time with who I got to know better this year. Jessica from my program was one. We talked a bit last year, but she started training at my gym and we just talked more and more. Super sweet girl. Also Cass, whom I met through my housemate Emily. We were able to bond on a specific thing and got a bit closer this year and I’m glad we had that chance because she is such an amazing person.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015.
Silently worrying about something brings nothing good to the issue. A hard as something can be to start, it is the only way to make things better.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Oh geez I’m awful with these types of questions. As cheesy as it’s going to sound and I never thought I would relate to a song by this artist, but Demi Lovato’s new song Confident.

I feel like I have come into the most confidence that I have ever had and I’m loving it and fully embracing it. Coming from a childhood that severely lacked in that department and probably was a huge instigator of my ED, this is a welcomed change.

I’m taking this song as more of a general confidence not the whole sexual side of this song…

It’s time for me to take it
I’m the boss right now
Not gonna fake it

‘Cause this is my game
And you better come to play

I hope you enjoyed this lil year wrap-up and have a safe and fun New Years Eve friends!

Song lyrics that sum up your year?

Thing that you wanted this year and got?

Two posts in one day, BAM.

So I know that this survey is technically a day late as it’s supposed to be on Christmas Day….but I’m a rule breaker + it was fun and I wanted to be able to share it anyways.

Thanks to Heather at Life in Leggings for this one! To see her responses click here.

I wanna hear some of your responses too in the comments so share away! 🙂

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?

Can I say neither? I’m really not a beverage person per say. I really only drink tea and water to be completely honest. If I was to pick a holiday drink that isn’t either of the aforementioned liquids, I would probably pick farm fresh apple cider.

My new tea mug! Cute eh?

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

Unwrapped presents?!? NEVER. Presents have to be wrapped to be considered presents in my book.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?

Coloured. I’m a fan of all things colour. Yes white may look more elegant, blah blah, but colour is so much more fun and when your tree included ornaments that are glass, the colour lights bounce off them so much nicer.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?

Yes! I actually was going to say no until I saw it yesterday hanging from the basement entrance. You will get hit with it every night in our house and so it’s good that it’s only required to follow through with if you’re with someone or the wall would be getting quite the lovin from us going under it single file 99% of the time…

5. When do you hang your decorations up?

My Mom does most of the decorating at our house. She leaves the main Christmas tree until I’m done exams so that we can do that together but she outdoes herself every year. We have no less then 6 Christmas trees of various sizes throughout our house and no room goes untouched with a lil Christmas spirit.

Main tree which is where we open presents on Christmas morning.

The Candy Cane tree that is in our dinning room

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

I absolutely love one of my own dishes actually. My spicy, roasted garlic and rosemary sweet potato mashed potatoes. When I actually make it ( I didn’t make it this year, too much food), I savour every bite and have a lil blob on every piece of turkey HA.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?

I remember when I was younger, my Nana and Papa would always come over for Christmas Eve before they then showed up the next day for the big day. We used to just spend a few hours with them and open a few presents and it was something I always looked forward to. They don’t come anymore due to it being too hard as they age, but I always remember those kinds of traditions

Another cherished memory is making apple pies for the big dinner with my Mom and Auntie Melanie. We used to blast our Christmas music and literally laugh until we snorted…well until my Aunt snorted. 😀

8. What is on your Christmas wish list?

I don’t really have a wish list but my parents always out do themselves and seem to read my mind when it comes to things I could use and enjoy. LuluLemon gift certificates are always good. 😉

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?

Nope. In fact, the majority of the gifts aren’t even under the tree until Christmas morning.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

Lots of lights and quite the variety of different ornaments. There are ones that have meaning (we have two teddy bears that are seated together to represent my parents, my unicorn as it was my favourite animal throughout my entire childhood), we have big sparkly snowflakes because sparkles duh and there are ones that we have collected over the years such as those my Grandma gives me every year.

There are of course the rest which are simply fillers that are plain ones, other angels, non-glass snowflakes and icicles (they pick up light beautifully) and sparkly branches that you weave into the trees branches.

11. Snow? Love it or dread it?

Sorry, DREAD. I loaaaaaathheee the cold (grinch voice). Snow means it’s way too cold for my liking. Send me a picture of the snow and I would be completely happy living in the heat for the entire year. Why am I Canadian?

12. Real tree or fake?

Fake. For one, I have asthma that hates all forms of living plants being in the house if they have a strong smell. At least, this was true as a child, I’m a lot better now. Second, and probably very much related to the first reason, I hate the smell of plants. Is that weird? I think it’s one of those aversion things. If something is going to hurt you, I sometime feel your body tries to make you avoid it. So, floral scents made my asthma flare up so as a result, I then dislike the smell.

So yeah, I’m a girl you won’t see smellin the roses…

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?

Hmmm, I can’t really remember, but obviously my Macbook has been up there in the top favourites for sure. It doesn’t have to be something so expensive to make me super happy though. This year my parents got me a heated blanket for keeping me toasty during the dreaded winter and obviously it was instant love.

14. What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?

Being with family. No question no hesitation. Everything could be held the same and it would never feel the same without my family. They make the holiday a holiday.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?

I’m not really a dessert person and actually never eat dessert on holidays. Call that my ED or not, I just don’t. If I were to have one, it would be ice cream for sure. It would not however be a holiday flavour because I ain’t into peppermint and chocolate ice creams and don’t even think of coming near me with eggnog…gag.

Gimme all of this…

…Which is actually what was served at our house yesterday.

As a kid it was our homemade apple pie. I absolutely adored it and adored all of the leftovers as well. I have yet to have pie since my ED but my stomach also has decided now that it hates apples for some reason -_-. Yet another FODMAP food that it doesn’t like. Ugh.

16. What is your favorite tradition?

Baking with my Mom. Although the amount we can actually do together has shrunk over the years due to me being away at school, we still alway make at least one thing together.

17. What tops your tree?

A lop-sided angel. Hey she stayed up there and didn’t take a nose dive. Ain’t nothing wrong with crooked. We’re short over here mmmkay 😛

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?

I really enjoy seeing others open my gifts. I try my best, despite not being very creative, to find special gifts or ones with meaning and so I’m always right there just waiting to see their face when they open it.

19. What is your favorite Christmas song?

I love Christmas music and you all have heard a million times that this CD is the best thing of life…

Favourite song on the disk would probably be “Spread a little love.”

20. Candy canes, yuck or yum?

I don’t eat them anymore, but I love peppermint. I used to love the fruity candy canes as a kid too. Those red and pink ones (I think they were cherry?) were awesome!

21. Favorite Christmas movie?

Hmmm I feel like I haven’t seen all of them so that’s hard but I do love The Grinch (Jim Carrey version!) and Elf.

My parents and I tend to always watch a few Christmas movies the nights leading up to Christmas. One of them is ALWAYS The National Lampoons Christmas Vacation because that’s my Dad’s favourite, and this year we watched Elf on Christmas Eve.

22. What do you leave for Santa?

Nothing now but as a kid he got some of our baking and carrots for the reindeer of course! Got feed the workers of the sleigh and plus the vitamin A for the optimal night vision 😀

23. Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?

We always open presents first thing after I wake them up as I tend to wake up the earliest. Stockings first, then presents and then after that they make their traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, etc. Our puppy always gets her breakfast of eggs as well (but that’s not really tradition because she tends to get eggs whenever they are made)

24. Do you prefer to shop online or in stores?

Stores because I like to be able to try things on. However, if it’s something I know will fit then online works awesome. I have ordered Lulu’s online before and had luck 50% of the time. That may sound sucky but that generally means that I end up having to go into a store to return it and come out of the store with 3 pieces for the one I returned….

25. Christmas letter or Christmas card?

I love writing and receiving letters much better then cards. They are speaking from the heart rather then fitting your thoughts and emotions into a pre-made card.

I hope you enjoyed this lil survey and remember to share some of your favourites too!

Have a great rest of your weekend friends. 🙂

Who’s doing more shopping tomorrow?

Find any good deals today for those who braved the sales today?

My Friends, my friends we have moved into official Christmas month

Welcome to December

Current Confession:

I’m feeling very unprepared for my first exam next Monday at 8:30Am. I dunno, those online are killers and just so hard to motivate yourself to do them. Worse yet, its all the wonderful things needed to run a restaurant business….snoooooore. On the grind I swear, I just don’t feel good as of right now.

It is open book but I don’t know if I should feel relieved or not because she said “you will be pressed for time.” Oh the compensatory ‘make the exam hard’ mechanisms for open book.

Current Book:

Do textbooks count? Tis the season…for exams that is.

Current Music:

Anything Timeflies. I dunno they have been rocking my workout playlist lately. Yes even the Beibs song ‘sorry’ has made it onto my playlist BUT in a Timeflies fashion.

Remix > original

I also just have a thing against the JB. Sorry to all the Beliebers I just don’t like him. His music can be hit or miss with me, but him, immature and annoying.

#SorryNotSorry I’m just being honest.

Current Guilty Pleasure:

A very expensive guilty pleasure. My Dad is now regretting the fact that I’m very observant in the grocery store and did their groceries a few weekends ago because this made it into my cart. I have had lobster about 5 times in the past 2 weeks for dinner….

I’m really not a spoiled brat I promise.

Current Entertainment:

Chicago Med! Now that Grey’s is gone for the season, which they totally didn’t announce I swear, this will fill my void. I went to watch Grey’s last week and it just didn’t show up…How rude.

But anyways, I missed the first episode but the past one was so good! I really like the entire Chicago trio, but I think this one is gunna be my favourite of the 3

Hand up for doctor dramas anyone?

Current Wish/Need:

That I can enjoy my LegDay Cheat Meal tonight with my friends and housemates. We are going to the Works Gourmet Burger and as much as I’m excited to finally try their elk burger, it’s a change from my usual thai and ice cream cheat and, well, change gives me anxiety. Especially when it revolves around food and, even more so, “scary, out to eat, dirty” foods.

I haven’t had a burger since Chucks back in the hammer…err like 3 years ago. Talk about re-challenging that fear. 0_O

Current Food:

Did I mention Lobster?

It even makes it into my post workout meals.

Speaking of post workout meals, them rice cakes with protein icing and nanner are strangely satisfying despite me making a mess of myself in public.

Oh and in huge news…

Them beauties are back. Whole Foods had Stokes purple sweet taters and you better believed I spent a small fortune stocking up.

Current Drink:

Not much of a exciting drinker. I only really drive tea and water but I found a cool new tea

Yay for reducing inflammation.

One hopes…

Current Triumph:

My latest squat PR. My weights drastically came down after they just took a nose dive due to my lost weight. My body managed to maintain my weights despite the drop for a lil bit, then I plateaued and then well…..crashing airplane noises.

Do you know how frustrating that is?

It was actually depressing, but it was bound to happen eventually. There is only so long that a deprived body can keep up super heavy weights, especially those compounds.

Anywho, my last squatter day I managed 110 at the bar for 5 solid reps for my 2 last sets. Small win, but I was still proud. I have also focused on getting my form down better then I was before, so at least something positive came out of the whole situation

Food, please give me my strength back!

Current Bane of Existence:

The fact that I finally found this tea (I have searching for years! Ohh Canada…) but to then discover it’s not gluten free

Why do you hate me?

Current Blogger Crush:

Jacklyn from Jack’s Balancing Act and Deanna from Dietician Deanna. I love the positive and happy space that Jacklyn has created with her blog. I really look forward to her posts and they give me some great ideas, like the myth buster that I think I might jump on board with. You should start a link-up for that one girl! 😀

I also wait for posts from Deanna as well because I feel like in a way I can relate to her (as she’s a fitness lover and foodie) but she’s also a step ahead in learning about and accepting ‘bad’ foods as something she can treat herself with. I will hopefully get there but for now, she gives me the motivation to try harder. She trusts the process and it hasn’t failed her but instead made she gain so why can’t I fully let go and trust that my body will do the right thing too?

Current Indulgence:

So does this mean I’m beginning to become a shoe groupie?

Current Blessing:

Still being able to squeeze in a 20 minute power nap before dinner…even if they are kinda weird. By weird I mean, I have weird thoughts…dreams?…during them so I really have no idea how much rest I’m getting. Stupid exams..

Current Outfit:

It’s starting and I don’t like it…

Current Excitement:

I know it’s a month away, but Christmas, or even better yet, just being off and done with exams.

What else I’m looking forward to….

The Victoria Secret fashion show. Weeooo.

Current Link:

Anyone else creep a restaurants menu hard before they go? I always know what I want BEFORE I make to the place.

As for burgers, what are your favourite OR required toppings?

For me, for a burger to be worth loosing my ice cream over (#FirstWorldProblems #FoodieProblems), they must first have exotic meats available. I ain’t going (and paying for…) for no cow burger. Check one for the Works and their elk patty (my favourite game meat as of currently).

The Goodies…

The only time I eat cheese…lots of goat cheese please (the best cheese, no?). #LactaidHarderThenMe!

Sundried tomatoes (no place ever has these so another point to the Works because they have them!)

Sauteed mushies and onion

Greens of some kind

Mustard. Plain, frenches mustard. None of that crazy crap. The classic please

Hot Sauce.

Basically what I would have on a pizza (sub basil or pesto for the greens + MEAT). HA! So it’s basically like a meatza because I don’t have a bun on my burger. Fork and knife style 😀

Current Mood:

Slightly stressed as my stomach and weird dream-state sleeping habits have been telling me….

Favourite food to eat out?

What is your current blessing?

Is it warm where you live? If so, can we trade…

Containing My Rambling…Ie. Fun Survey

My Friends,

I decided to let my rambles be controlled today by doing a fun lil survey I found when looking over the last Thinking Out Loud posts in Amanda’s linkup. Thanks to Miss Polkadot for the inspiration for this post.

Click on her name if you want to check out her answers!

I’m happiest when…I’m relaxing with friends and family. Just enjoying their company and not having to worry about being studious or deadlines. Stress-free. A close second… zee gym times 😀

I’ve always wanted to…Go to California! Like for real guys, if only I had monnies I would be glowing in that California Sun

Calllliiifffoornniaaa Looooooovveee

My family and I are… Insanely close. I consider my parents to be two of my best friends. I truly appreciate the time we get to spend together and I get excited to go him to see them. They are my rocks and provide me with unconditional support and love. I never take for granted the relationship we have and I will cherish it and relish in it for the rest of my life.

I was a terrible…at english. Does that sound weird? Yes, english was my toughest and most annoying subject in school and I had to work damn hard just to get my 80% in that class. I don’t suppose that’s why I found myself repin’ the sciences…

“You need to go deeper in your thoughts”

“Explain it more without adding fluff…”

“I dunno, I just didn’t think you took it as far as you could go..”

I still couldn’t tell you what any of those mean. Thanks for the lessons on essay writing teach! -_-

My first job was…like many other youngins, babysitting. I used to ‘sit for practically all the kids on our street and surprisingly when it was the lil boys thy actually listened to me despite pretty much being bigger then me.. One lil girl I used to watch I also did reading coaching with on separate nights and it was so exciting to see her grow and get better and better!

I could probably eat ____ everyday. Must I choose? There a a few things in my life that I do in fact happily look forward to eating every damn day. Oatmeal for one, fish for two (yes I’m a weirdo that craves fish hard core if I don’t have it for one day) and probably peanut butter… Must be crunchy though!

I was born on the same day as…Tom Cruise (oh geez the crazy scientologist…), Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds), R.B. Bennett (11th Canadian Prime Minister)

My all-time favorite movie is… couldn’t tell ya. To be honest I’m not a movie freak. Confession: I’m the one who will fall asleep even in a movie theatre because watching a movie requires me to be still and sit down for more then 30 minutes…

I do a pretty mean… Gameface. I say this but I couldn’t really know this…Apparently when I’m in the zone, no one wants to break that concentration HA! I used to get told all the time that people at my gym would see me but never approach me because I had that face going. I don’t bite I promise 😉

I’m still mad… That my amazing ice cream place in Milton has shut down for the season and I missed my opportunity to try their recess pieces gelato. Damn ED making me too afraid to indulge in both the skor and reese’s flavour at once the final time I was there…I will get over it…maybe..

I met my best friend… My first best friend? Daycare I think…? Corey was his name and apparently (I was young so I don’t really remember) we were the cutest lil two-some. These days I tend to have a few very close friends including my housies generally and a few school peeps. They keep me happy. I’m a social person I swear, but never feel the need to have humpteen million friends. I have my circle who I can trust and confide in and I’m always open to chattering with anyone who comes my way. 🙂

I always knew I wanted… to always have a dog in my life. I have had one my whole life, from birth up until I left for University and was forced to part ways with Lacey, and now, Maggie due to not living at home with my parents. I find myself yearning for the fluffy companionship out of the blue. I can truly say that if I had the money to care for a dog I would have my own. They give me such comfort.

My future furbaby just you wait.

My future furbaby just you wait.

I’m not afraid tobe honest and open about myself. My confidence has never been as high as it is now. I was a really insecure and shy kid and teen. Up until first year university I lacked any confidence what so ever and it’s crazy how much a lil bit of independence and your more adult experiences (ie. my relationship) can really catapult you into understanding who you really are and being okay with YOU. People ask me how I can write about my life on a blog to people I don’t even know, but truly, I’m not afraid to show myself to others. Why should I be? This is my life and I’m proud of where I have come from and where I am going. What should I afraid of there?

I make the best…

Oatmeal concoctions for others (and myself obviously, but I’m a pb-banana girl forever!). The above one was salted caramel apple zoats for Em and she loved them. I tend to make food for people… a lot. If you live with me you are given food like 24-7 because I just like cooking and baking. When I’m bored, stressed or just want my hands to busy, I grab a bowl and a spoon and get going.

I have almost no… sense of direction. What is north?

I always cry when I don’t tend to cry often but when I do it’s because I’m stressed out.

I’m now …a Nutrition and Dietetics Student at Guelph University. I’m also a gym fanatic with a great family and close circle of friends. I’m a 24 year old female who is just looking to embrace herself and find and live out her passions one day at a time.

I wish my folkscould truly know how much I love them for what they have done for me. They have dealt with a lot with me. My health has never been great and my ED really put them through a storm like no other. I will never forgive myself for what I put them through but I hope they can always know that I have never taken that love and unconditional support for granted. I never will. They deserve the best and nothing less.

I believe if everyone … didn’t have to think about money, the world would be a better place. All of our problems in the world generally have a money component. People turn nasty because they are scared about their livelihood. Countries go to war because they want something…generally resources to make more money.

On a similar note, if we didn’t fear so much, our world would be a much safer and more accepting place. We fear everything and everyone these days and that also drives the awful violence that we see (and don’t see…) every day.

I can’t standimmaturity. Maybe it’s because I have always been a bit more mature for my age, but I really cannot handle the lack of care, common-sense or respect for others that I think an adult should have. Being a student I’m surrounded by a amalgamation of people who are learning to come into adulthood but I’m also graced with those who care only for themselves and don’t feel the need to be a proper citizen and/or adult.

Happiness-inducing today: My GoodnessMe! Saturday morning routine with my housies (Unfortunately missin Em, as she’s in Toronto) .

And that’s a wrap!

Hope you enjoyed my contained rambles and you had a great Saturday.

Whatcha doing for Sunday Sunday tomorrow?

Anyone doing Cyber Monday shopping?
